For new participants
If you would like to take part in any of our activities, you need to be referred by your mental health professional or support worker. Please direct them to our website or pass on the email address of our Participation and Volunteering Coordinator.
When your referrer contacts us, the relevant project coordinator will if possible make an appointment to meet you and your referrer together ('interest visit'). This meeting gives you a chance to visit the project and find out more about what we do at Common Wheel.
For referrers
If you are a mental health professional or support worker and would like to refer someone to Common Wheel, please email our Participation and Volunteering Coordinator for more information or fill in the referral form. Please note that most of our staff are working part time so it may take a few days to get back to you.
Once we have received the form, the project coordinator will contact you. If possible they will arrange an interest visit. This is a short meeting at the project with yourself, your client and a member of the Common Wheel team. At the meeting we will provide more details about the project and give you and your client a chance to ask questions. Following the interest visit, if all parties agree that the project is suitable for your client, we will contact you to arrange a start date.
We recognise that there may be occasions where an in-person interest visit might not be possible. If this is the case please contact the project coordinator about alternatives.
As a referrer your role will be to remain an active point of contact for at least the first twelve weeks of your client's time at Common Wheel. For example, if your client misses a session and we can't get in touch with them, we will contact you. Most importantly, you will be our main contact should we have any concerns regarding your client's wellbeing during their time with us.
Please do not make a referral if you are about to discharge your client, as you will not be able to be an ongoing contact. Alternatively, please find a suitable longer-term referrer so that we can maintain contact throughout your client's time at Common Wheel.
