Climbing
Our Climbing Project is currently accepting referrals.
Climbing has been shown to be one of the best physical activities for improving mental health as well as physical fitness. This is recognised within the NHS. It is suitable for all levels of fitness and experience.
Common Wheel is now offering climbing as one of our activities. We ran a successful pilot from August 2019 until early 2020. Unfortunately we were unable to continue through the pandemic and only started up again in January 2022. Going forward we intend to offer three courses per year for new participants, as well as a group for people who have completed a course and want to continue. There will be an opportunity for prospective participants to try out the activity before they commit to a regular group. Within the group, people will be able to progress at their own pace in a welcoming, friendly and supportive atmosphere.

We are based at the climbing centre in Maryhill, known as 'The Prop Store'. We are very grateful to TCA Glasgow for helping us to get this activity off the ground.
The groups are led by TCA's professional instructors, supported by Common Wheel's climbing coordinator. Each course will start off with easy bouldering and later there will be opportunities to try auto-belays and roped climbing. |
