Carnival Club
Our Carnival Club staff have designed a new project so that people can participate from home. This is being piloted with some of our existing group members.
Please note that we are still unable to accept any new referrals. Carnival Club is Common Wheel's twelve week visual arts programme where participants meet once a week to work with a professional artist and together design and produce pieces of visual art that will be showcased at Glasgow's various street carnivals. During our pilot, participants designed and produced a giant snowman and polar bear for the 2016 Glasgow Style Mile Carnival parade. Our more recent groups have made lanterns for exhibition at the Botanic Gardens, giant flowers and bumblebees for the Merchant City Festival, and elves and a huge Christmas Tree for the 2017 Style Mile Carnival. Watch this space for some of our most recent group's creations!
The group is open to people with any amount of artistic experience, so if you have never taken part in creating art before you are just as welcome as those who have. If you already participate in a creative hobby, we hope Carnival Club will allow you to develop your skills further. The group works with a range of materials from tissue paper to willow, and may incorporate anything from painting to photography. |
Feedback from our Spring/Summer 2017 session: The trainers were very encouraging and friendly - great teachers (Carnival Club participant). I learnt more new things and enjoyed expressing myself creatively (Carnival Club participant). I have enjoyed meeting new people, finding a safe place, and learning new art (Carnival Club participant). Feedback from our 2016 pilot: Trying something new has been great. This is the first time I've worked with willow - I'm enjoying it. I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together (Carnival Club participant). |

Video for 'The People's Projects' (National Lottery)
We made this short promotional film as part of a funding application. We thought we'd share it on our website as it shows some of our Carnival Club activities and artworks. Enjoy!
