Trek boy's bike
This is a Trek Mountain Lion. It is owned by Calum McBirnie. His mother had bought a three speed roadster from us, and came back to get something Calum could keep up on.
This Trek is one of the last ones to be made of steel, and is made just as well as their adult bikes of the same period. It's nicely TIG welded in Taiwan, and the frame has adult bike style rack mounts and mudguard eyelets. It's a good machine.
We were asked to fit mudguards, a rack and more comfortable handlebars, which we did. These parts are all steel, so the complete bike is heavy but tough. Calum's mother also asked for smooth tyres, and we found some Schwalbe Marathons.
This is what happens when an adult specifies a child's bike. You get something sensible that works.
The very observant may note the 'Z' shapes on the mudguard stays. This is a traditional method of shortening stays without cutting them.
