Sports Bikes

The sports bike, often called a 'racer', has drop handlebars, big narrowish wheels and 5 to 20 derailleur gears. It can take mudguards and a rear rack easily. The frame will be of steel, usually lugged. Brakes are on the rim, usually by sidepull. Raleigh and others sold zillions of these from the end of WW2 to the coming of the mountain bike.

It's hard to find this exact kind of bike new unless you have a custom frame made at great cost!
