Carnival Club created these beautiful banners which were displayed on the gates of Queen's Park at the Govanhill Festival. The banners celebrate the success in saving the Govanhill Baths, and the Occupation of the baths 20 years ago. The artists took inspiration from the Matisse technique of paper-cuts to create their designs.

Carnival Club and Tunes Up collaborated to perform Creative Collusion, a dramatic mix of visual arts and music, at the Hub at Gartnavel Royal Hospital. The piece began with a procession of lanterns down the hill and into the performance space. The audience enjoyed the music and our participants enjoyed showcasing their talents.  Our wonderful Carnival Club creations became part of the Bearsden Festival (10 - 19 May 2019) which 'celebrated the positive impact of arts on our mental health and wellbeing'. For over a week our flowers, animals, characters - and totem pole - graced the proceedings bringing their own colourful charm and sense of fun. Our bike engineer provided a Dr. Bike service for the Thorn Park Fun Run/Cycle Fest on the final day, and fixed loads of bikes of all sizes.  A big thank you to the Bearsden Festival for a great partnership, and well done to all our fabulous participants. This year's event was held on 11 May 2019 in Glasgow University Concert Hall. We enjoyed 10 hours of continuous improvised music, and raised over £1000 for Common Wheel. Many thanks to Glasgow University and all the participants, sponsors, and supporters who helped to make this event a success. Unfortunately the recording is incomplete, but about three quarters of it can be heard on YouTube.
This new composition by Andrew Cruickshank, using lyrics written by people in and associated with Gartnavel Royal Hospital, was performed in the Hub at GRH. Feedback from the audience was very positive. There is a recording on SoundCloud.
A variety of Carnival Club creations were on display in the Christmas Parade on Sunday 25 November. The weather was fine, and it was quite busy. We would like to thank Neil for bringing Big Trike from Maryhill, our artist Jane for masterminding the display, the staff and volunteers who came along to help, and of course the clients who created the exhibits. Our 10 hour Sponsored Music Improvisation marathon took place on Sat 24th March 2018. There is a recording of the entire event on YouTube. Some interesting and exciting music was played and we have raised over £1,000 so far, with more to come. Thanks to everyone involved.
203 Journeys was the third in a series of pieces for Gartnavel Royal Hospital – following 200 Years in December 2014 and 2:02 two years later. This time we asked folk to think about journeys they have taken: physical, emotional, spiritual, holiday trips or any other kind of journey, and then write some words about it. Gartnavel Royal Composer in Residence, Andrew Cruickshank, incorporated the words into this new composition,
which was performed in 'The Hub' at Gartnavel Royal Hospital on Saturday 15th December 2017 in front of a full house. There is a recording of the event on SoundCloud. Carnival Club clients, staff and volunteers had a wonderful time at the Glasgow Style Mile Christmas Carnival on Sunday 26th November 2017. The annual Carnival brings music, dance and spectacle to the heart of Glasgow. It was an afternoon of amazing performance, thrilling costumes and enchanting acts. We braved the cold to display Carnival club's most recent artworks along the city centre streets and finished up among the Christmas lights of the very festive George Square. The crowds were lining the streets, and the group's various creations - including a huge planet, Jack Skellington, and a variety of elves - were a huge hit! This year we were able to go bigger and better, as the team from our bike workshop in Maryhill brought their tricycle to carry the rather large Christmas tree! Special thanks go to Gregor Murray of Man with a Van Glasgow who very kindly donated his services and enabled us to get our precious artworks safely back to the Common Wheel arts workshop, where they are now on display. Thanks also to Iain G. Farrell who acted as our official Common Wheel photographer for the Carnival and got us some wonderful pictures of the afternoon.  Common Wheel participated in the Merchant City Festival procession in Glasgow city centre on Saturday 22nd July. We displayed our most recent Carnival Club creation ... a giant Mr Kibble, inspired by our trip to the Glasgow Botanic Gardens! He was definitely a huge hit - even featuring in a number of selfies!
