People's Millions
The "Back to Life" appeal was shown on STV news on 24 November 2010 as part of The People's Millions, a grants programme run by the Big Lottery Fund, in partnership with ITV.
We won an award of nearly £34,000 which will enable us to expand our current Polyphony project to offer older people living in residential care access to musical opportunities which will enhance their quality of life. This project runs music groups with older people in care, many of whom have dementia. Dementia affects a huge number of families in Scotland and the project offers a real chance to rebuild social connections and see joy return to people who are at their most isolated. This is where music really opens doors for people – we’ve worked with people who can’t tell us their names but who can sing a whole song with us. With the funding we can reach so many more people. This initiative will allow six residential care homes and community centres in Glasgow to participate in an established project which will combine music with reminiscence work for older people suffering from dementia. Many families in Scotland face the challenge of caring for somebody with dementia.
Thank you for helping us take music into the lives of people living with dementia.
